The medial clear space is the distance between the talus and the internal malleolus. The superior clear space (syn. : mortise space, ankle joint space) is the distance between the talus and the tibial plafond. The lateral clear space is the distance between the talus and the external malleolus.
The difference between superior clear space and medial clear space must be <2 mm.
