The medial clear space is the distance between the talus and the internal malleolus. The superior clear space (syn. : mortise space, ankle joint space) is the distance between the talus and the tibial plafond. The lateral clear space is the distance between the talus and the external malleolus. |
The difference between superior clear space and medial clear space must be <2 mm. |
